Complete Chinese Cookbook by Ken HomMy fantastic wife bought me this book Complete Chinese Cookery by Ken Hom for Christmas. As you will know if you have read my review of the Ken Hom Carbon Steel Wok I have you will know that I think Ken Hom is an absolute legend. His cookery is just the style I love to cook, I have never seen anyone handle a Wok like Ken Hom does, he jus makes it all look so simple.

With that said, the Complete Chinese Cookery book was always going to be a hit with me, but I could not have imagined how much… put it this way, I think my wife is getting fed-up of Chinese food now as I have cooked virtually every meal since Christmas (its now the second week in January!) from this book.

Usually when I have a cookery book I look through the sections and 5 or if I am lucky 10 dishes spring out at me that I want to try, from the hundreds of pages, the rest don’t appeal. This is not the case with Ken Hom’s Complete Chinese Cookery book. Every page I turn I want to start cooking!

A slight down side to the book, but I guess all authentic Chinese cooking, some of the ingredients to some of the recipes are not readily available in the super market, although having said that they are getting better. Fortunately for me I have a Chinese super market not far away so those few items I could not get hold of were easy to find. This did not stop me cooking 90% of the dishes, it was just the odd one that I could not find ingredients for.

The other thing I would suggest with this book (which I generally don’t do) is make sure you read the method through fully, I usually see the picture and want to cook it and dive in (Typical man I hear you say!). With Ken Hom’s book it is worthwhile taking 5 minutes to read through the instructions first so you know what is coming.

All in all a fantastic book, I still have numerous dishes I want to cook and the ones I have done I will defiantly be doing again as they were all a hit with the family.
